Purpose of Position

Develop external written and visual communications which will enhance the college in the minds of its constituencies; develop internal written and visual communications of interest to employees and students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are duties that are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.

● Write features/press releases and prepare images and/or video for external and internal dissemination;
● Assist in preparing daily internal communications through various e-newsletters;
● Assist with the planning and coverage of College events;
● Assist in the development of content for all multimedia messaging systems, including social media;
● Assist in the development of text and multimedia content for campus publications;
● Institute and manage an archival system for all campus photographs for current and future use;
● Manage ongoing inventory of photographic equipment and resources;
● Monitor distribution of external communications;
● Manage relationships with media outlets;
● Serve as PR point person for various assigned departments on campus, including but not limited to L&C Athletics;
● Provide assistance with inputting Athletics information into the website via a Content Management System (CMS), including but not limited to scores, feature stories, photographs and game information;
● Create digital and print content for College and subsidiary websites (National Great Rivers Research and Education Center, Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities, etc.)
● Provide input to the Web Development Team on content-related issues on the web;
● Assist in preparing emergency notifications using the campus alert system;
● Prepare short talks and speeches for College officials;
● Create text, photo and video advertising copy for enrollment and other purposes;
● Provide other public relations/marketing duties as assigned by the Manager;
● Possess publication and graphic design skills
● Possess video and video editing skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

SKILLS REQUIRED

● Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
● Expertise and experience in DSLR, professional-level photography (sports photography is a bonus)
● Experience in newspaper/public relations, writing and AP Style
● Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
● Possess strong organizational skills
● Knowledge and experience in archiving photos, including but not limited to print, slide and digital
● Proficiency/expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud software; especially Photoshop and Premiere (or other video editing software)
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
● Ability to work in a Mac environment
